Celestial Summer Seasonings are on the horizon, basking us in its voluminous golden glow as we welcome Cancer, doubled with a potent Full Moon.
As Summer Solstice AND the Capricorn Full Moon are soon to take place, the Cardinal powers of a New Chapter change the tune in a serious way, not just for the weekend ahead but the rest of June and July with themes that will be prominent into the rest of the year. Today is Father’s Day (U.S.) and Capricorn is absolutely the Daddy of the Zodiac! We love the Wheel of the Year working a big symbolic shift as the Cancer-Capricorn Axis is highlighted to the Gods.
Cancer-Capricorn are famously known as the Zodiac’s parental units, pillars of responsibility for our inner and outer worlds. Maternal Cancer Sun opposite a Full paternal Cap Moon craves more support and recognition alike, pulling us sharply out of free-flowing fae Gemini Season. The Solstice IS celebratory regardless, a notation that cordial joyous moments of gathering can also accompany thoughtful consideration on how we decide to conduct ourselves in witness of community, privately and publicly.
Astrologically and as a climate segment, embracing this period with laughter and sharing is the favored order of the Summer Solstice. The Femme Moon has helped organize a Summer Solstice Fest at Halfway Crooks this upcoming Friday 6/21 which will include a mini-market and musical performances. King of Pops will be slinging cold treats, Samwitch will have some farm-fresh yummies and love to say that Halfway Crooks does offer NA options that are actually GREAT and delicious. June Cancer Season Astrology:
6/17 Mercury AND Venus enter Cancer + conjunct on this day! Though still not quite out of Gemini Season, we’re shifting into tenderness and emo intimacy thru both the Planets of Communication and Love.
6/20 Cancer Season begins. Cardinal Crab kicks off the Summer Solstice, peaking at 4:50 PM EST as the longest day of the year.
6/21 Full Moon in Capricorn. June’s Full Moon a.k.a. the Strawberry Moon align with the berry harvest, sweet with the heat of the new season.
6/29 - 11/15 Saturn Retrograde in Pisces. Structured Saturn isn’t the best match in philosophical Pisces, but this backspin can radicalize pressures we place on our expectations. This Rx deserves more than a blurb so we’ve indulged more info in its own section at the bottom of this post.
WHAT: Capricorn Full Moon
WHEN: Friday June 21st, 2024 9:08 PM EST
THEME: Correcting Course, Deconstructing Desire, a New Cardinal Chapter
For the near-Solstice Full Moon, we are viewing the Cap-Cancer duality thru the lush mythology of Pan and the Nymphs. Pan, as a half-human, half-goat satyr God aligns with Earthy Capricorn’s underrated pleasure-seeking pursuits. Though not entirely devoid of the capital gain cliches, this horny faun was deeply determined to be in the company of the ethereal nymphs, lurking on the sidelines as they bathed in streams and ponds, then convincing them into naked frolic with his pan-flute symphonies.
The nymphs were semi-divine feminine personifications of their environments, some of Earth and others of Water, living communally in the wild. At home in their bodies and one with Nature, nymphs had the freedom of playful sexuality, not restricted by society-bound rules (and, yes, nymphomania was a 14c etymological combo of the terms “nymph” and “mania”). Nymphs were regularly associated with Pan and/or the hedonistic Dionysus but also part of sapphic communal lore ala Moon Goddess Artemis (previously explore in depth in “Manifesto of the Maiden”).
Indeed Pan’s ambition, even in pleasure, relates highly to Capricornian traits, paving the path, honing in on outcomes. This horny goat was a tad bit a trickster and every bit an opportunistic: he viewed the nymphs as “prizes to win”, obsessed with access to their feminine company, like jewels around him, a motivation of conquest. In the psychology of wanting social closeness and yet still remaining a leader, desire morphs into control, quick to turn on a dime. Power-hunger then becomes unhealthy attachment and the proudness linked to the material - or in Pan’s case, adventures of the flesh - becomes its own kind of possession of the mind: an addiction and a curse.
And yet Cancer Season in her tides of Moon Magick and the Soul as it relates to the Collective, can also drown in romantic objectification, possessiveness of her brood, lining her caves with pearls and promises that maybe are unrealistic to keep in the currents of change. Cancer wants comfort, a security and safety that will sustain her if in need of solace, and she will latch her claws onto that which has little to no capacity until it bleeds if she views it as a viable source. Because the Cancer-Capricorn Axis is that of legacy, there is often a vision in place for everything around them, often a detriment that does not allow the freedom of organic growth and misses opportunities for their own natural maturity. We can only control ourselves after all.
This Capricorn Full Moon is supported by many aspects that allows us to EXPERIENCE enrichment when we let go of our expectations. And though most Full Moons are about letting go, this Summer Solstice lunation does have the markers of a new dawn. Soaking up the fullness of the Sun and the Moon alike, this moment can fill our cups with golden beginnings and gorgeous enjoyment. It’s time to allow ourselves to be responsible for our discernment and our actions as we move on our own path and to spend less time surveying what is around us. The truest mark of responsibility is the one in which we love ourselves fully and pour into our own cup when we can.
Celebrations + Considerations of the Summer Solstice Capricorn Full Moon:
This is the 1st of 2 Capricorn Full Moons for 2024. The June Moon is at 1 degree Cap and the next in July will be at 29 degrees. Summer’s Capricorn Full Moon duo will set-up long-term inner work, which can be welcome if we’re looking at a mid-year review in the midsummer and Capricorn LOVES an assessment, planning and projects to accomplish.
As we enter the Summer Season, the Capricorn Full Moon shines a bright light on the steps to actualize. Allow your more dedicated and long-term goals to have another loving look. Pausing to find our flow for the sizzle of Summer, but looking ahead to the Autumn and Winter, is important as this Moon sharpens our strategic smarts. The structures of our lives and giving ourselves grace to look head-on at our goals can save us from the mess of many Retrogrades in the 2nd half of 2024.
The Capri Full Moon reveals where we’ve allowed change (or are still stuck within the crosshairs) since the Gemini New. Cap’s kink to maintain their position and obtain access could use some realistic examination. Applying Cap’s hard work to let go of toxic defense mechanisms or ill motivations can provide the go-ahead to actually build a solid and fair foundation for our future selves.
But avoid the trap of being an over-eager beaver! Yes, we may identify where we could apply more hard-work but reckless rushing can also lead to mistakes. Cancer Season urges us to search our souls and not just look at the to-do list ready to sprint thru it. Though this process will continue to reveal itself over the next few months and we may be eager for results, remember that actionable change takes time to take root.
Humility and grace go a long way. It’s a trap to do things with hopes for outside results. Regardless of the responses to our efforts, we still have a responsibility to take care of our disappointment and frustration. Self-regulation is self-care. Not making a choice is still a choice and will create an effect, whether we want to or not. How's that for a Full Moon release?
With a light square to Neptune in Pisces, this Full Moon also challenges icky expectations, ridged judgment and inauthentic performances we have tricked ourselves into, whether by familial programming, modeling our paths to that of others or society at large. Forget what “success” is supposed to look like! This lunation is ideal to redefine what success looks like TO YOU, not what we’re told it should look like.
The Cap Moons set a backdrop for the Pluto Rx in Capricorn (9/1-11/19), indicating a further personal development into Autumn 2024. Our inner awareness and problem-solving skills will have additional opportunities ahead. We will have many chances to keep releasing icky self-detriments related to the Capricornian shadow side. For example, energies of the industrious Sea-Goat may dredge up internalized capitalism, imposter syndrome and frustration with our wants/needs not being met.
6/29 - 11/15 SATURN RETROGRADE
At the end of June, we’ll be starting nearly 140 days of Saturn in Pisces unfurling a retrograde that can radically change the structure of our lives for better of worse. As Saturn rules Capricorn and the beginning of this backspin occurs between the 2 Capricorn Full Moons, this can be an auspicious time to explore Saturnian themes that we need to stop ignoring. When we deny the reality check that is Saturn, our wayward wondering will come to a head with a rude awakening, quaking thru aspects of our finances, career, health and home that have needed our attention the most.
Saturn represents responsibility, discipline and structure. With Saturn in Pisces, this Rx can further emphasize the spirit and conflict with our dreams and core selves against the harsh, cruel world we live in.
And by no means are we saying we need to adjust ourselves to the violent, competitive social structures around us. Nor are we saying we need to give up on our dreams. In fact, this Rx could be a softer Saturn terrain to do the opposite. We may find ways to work within the confines of time (because there are only so many hours in a day) and resources (we have to make money to survive, which takes some of our time), but Pisces’ power in the Capricorn Full Moon span gets an extra oomph at scheduling and MAKING TIME for what we love. Looking at the bigger picture and then honing in on the details of data can help us calculate ways to work towards our wishes.
At the end of the day, we DO have to make sure our needs are met (and then some). We have responsibilities to our families, communities, and even our bodies require our attention even when our minds want something else. When we overwork or are lacking in sleep/nutrition, we are susceptible to burn-out and illness (more on this in the Cancer New Moon Muse upcoming). This backspin will bring up the different arenas we need to commit to, others we can afford to let go of or put on pause, and where we are overloading.
Saturn in Pisces wants us to carve out space for rest and creativity as much as it also pushes the agenda of getting our shit together. In this way, we may have a more holistic balance of what responsibility looks like. And, yes, the reality check is we may NOT be able to have it all… at least not at once. So we do need to reflect on ways in which we push ourselves to work beyond our capacities during the next 2 Full Moons and be aided by the Cancer-Capricorn Axis in these questions as we move thru the next month.
This one is laser-fucking-targeted to me right now, and the fact that I’m a Crab Sun myself makes it feel extra urgent to pay attention. Thank you.
