Even though it is our birthright, Love comes at a cost.
Mercury Retrograde has finally ended (April 7th) and Venus Retrograde ends with the Full Moon in Libra (April 12-13th depending)! 1/4th into 2025, we’re coming out of some of the most difficult Astrology of the Year. The snags of relationship-communication snafus in Spring Eclipse Season has put the Balance of Love on the line and we’re hard-pressed to REVIEW (what retrogrades and their shadow periods are REALLY for if you wanna get down to it). We’re reviewing what we want, what we don’t, what can be modified, what ship has sailed, what is solid, what is stale and, above all, what is worthy or a waste of our time. One thing is certain: the Love you give and receive should never be taken for granted as Love itself is an extraordinary energy and ~though unquantifiable and difficult to measure~ one of the most precious resources in the World.
The effort we put into people who are blocked from growth is indeed a waste. Directing large sums of Love to non-accepting avenues is a fast track to missing other open pathways or even important investment in ourselves. Love energy SHOULD be expensive BUT ALL KINDS of Love exists; our limits will likely be tailored by type (including but not limited to romantic, platonic, communal, familial and universal). Pondering ideals and barriers around each kind is an exercise in intention: to know how we want our own and hopeful effort(s) of others to operate sets the tone plus being able to show up for different kinds of love with mental preparation shows consideration. This also includes an inkling idea about what kind of boundaries are best for us and when communicated in early stages (with periodic check-in’s along the way), we’re respecting the process. We’re engaging and collaborating in Love.
Unfortunately, many people just float, grasping at straws, knee-jerking thru connections, not slightly aware of their own wants and needs.
April invites energetic evaluation that will either thrive or be redirected…
And expectations not met will inevitably meet negotiation or termination of a connection. Granted, there is no one-size-fits-all for all the types of Love in this World; Love is as nuanced as the people involved. Knowing what works for YOU is the key; for example, I do not require reciprocity re: mutual aid yet expect after-care post-sex from a partner. Both exchanges likely influence positive feelings, require a sensitive approach, could be vulnerable, but they are completely different. With the activity of Venus + its Retrograde, romantic love will be this post’s focus. And let’s be real: Do you feel the energy within AND outside yourself is balanced in your most intimate relationship(s)?
When it comes to which romantic philosophy to pick, singing “love is free, baby” to “grief is the price we pay for love”, we so often walk a tough tight-rope. The self-sacrifice of romantic love often plants seeds of resentment, no stranger to the recent Mars Retrograde in Cancer that craved security but lacked self-advocacy. Love is filtered through a mess of thoughts and feelings then reactions to other’s behaviors re: THEIR own thoughts and feelings. Now direct, Mars STILL doesn’t do well in the Crab BUT by 4/17 Mars moves into Leo where the War Planet will thrive with lioness charisma. Though last December’s Mars Retrograde in Leo was quite an egotistical shit show, once we get into Taurus Season April 19th-20th the Martian Fixed Fire will strengthen resolve around conflict with confidence.
The first post-Equinox lunation brims with the Labor of Love.
April’s Astrology leads us into the lusty erotic warmth of the Season and, yes, the Libra Pink Moon brings a breath of fresh air with the gift of giddiness in conversation, gatherings, kinship, but it will still deal with some heavy issues. The Double-Retrograde in the Ram found many of us butting heads with the people we love. Our own anger, what skills exist in utilizing its alchemist advantages and the ways we barter our own resources to placate social or political tension, were highlighted with the Aries Solar Eclipse. Now the switch is flipped and the Libra Moon will find us more clear-headed than we have been in a LONG WHILE. The inaccuracies of the Aries-Libra Axis ~that masculine Mars always brutally dismisses adversaries and feminine Venus flippantly dilly-dallies without direction~ is an ideological faux pas expressing anything but the essence of these Sister Signs.
Yes, Libran energy IS a whirling dervish dance but she ALSO emits a discernment that is not here to play. Yes, the gut-punch of Aries’ need for autonomy DOES challenge the careful consideration of Libra but the consequences of imbalance will remain until Libra does its damnedest to make everything okay. As the South Node in Libra toiled thru attachment aero-disturbance from July 17, 2023 to January 11, 2025, the NOW is especially important to hone in on the ways we’ve changed or need to continue changing to dial into more understanding not just of others but of ourselves. What we do and where we put our energy right now will come to fruition by the time we reach Libra Season. That which is planted now will be beyond bloom and into eventual decay, fertilizing and percolating for the next Spring.
This week’s MicroMoon chooses both the longer view to get a bigger picture while also measuring the environmental details: the soil, the rain, the light.
As Spring’s Pink Moon of floral “pink moss” is hosted by the one and only lovely Libra, an Air sign ruled by Venus, Venusian planetary powers are enhanced by Libra’s love-speak of all things relationship-oriented. However, the Sign of The Scales is not to be forgotten re: its strong association with Justice, mythologized by the same-named Goddess in Roman mythology. Reviewing the power dynamics in our romantic lives will be in prominence as we sensually unfurl towards Summer. The pursuit of Pleasure and Love is such a gorgeous gift when we harness awareness of our own sensual sovereignty and discern the direction of our divinely delicious desires. Moon witches are always being led thru the lush lore of story-telling.
In Spring, the tales teeter between sexy and sweet to chaotic and cataclysmal.
The first Full Moon after the Spring Equinox is always known as the Paschal Full Moon, rooted with Passover (“Pascha”). Though the lunisolar calendar differs numerically from Gregorian (a great read re: this here), Easter always falls the Sunday after the Paschal Moon. In 2025, Easter will be on Sunday April 20th (Taurus Season, Earth Day and 4/20 - going to have a field day with this one!). Some scholars claim the invented Easter timing of the Paschal Full Moon was a full-circle attempt to erase an older ancient Goddess (or 2 or 3), replacing esoteric feminist folklore with newer rites of a newer religion. Connections between the differing cultures over centuries will be in focus for the Taurus Season Moon Muse up ahead. My particular Goddess pick for the Pink Moon is FULL OF VENUSIAN JUICINESS and she’s a gorgeous focus for both of April’s major Moons in Venusian Signs.
One of the earliest recorded deities, Inanna / Ishtar acutely ties with both the Moon AND the planet Venus.
Inanna’s immaculate conception occurred in outer space; she was encapsulated in a giant egg and arrived with a big splash into the Euphrates River. Her name translated to “Lady of Heaven”; she is said to be the daughter of Sky God Anu or the Moon God Nanna depending on who you talk to. Viewed as a gift from above, Inanna’s divine delivery also exhibits the parallels between menstrual cycles and the moon AND hints at alien arrival if we wanna get real re: the ongoing theme of “chariots” and “angels” in early times. Associated with the Venusian 8-pointed Star, Inanna’s human-reveal onto the lush terrain of the Mesopotamian Spring is rumored to have happened after the Spring Equinox during the first Full Moon. However, it’s also said she arrived during the Winter Solstice (more Jesus calendar ties). Who knows for sure as this mythology is over 4000 years old!
Though highly known as a Goddess of Fertility and Sexuality, perhaps the blueprint that bloomed later in cultures all over the Planet, Inanna was also known for War and Wisdom, a design for other goddesses of this ilk as well. A Sacred Slut armed with weaponry and an esoteric understanding of Life, she was able to visit the Underworld AND the Heavens. Her most studied story is the immortalized Epic of Gilgamesh and the Descent of Inanna, strikingly similar to Persephone’s tale about injustice and imbalance on Earth due to her departure. I highly associate every Pink Moon with Inanna and find myself intentionally honoring her during the savors of Spring.
Inanna’s lore is imbued with both strength AND capriciousness: she is the one who gets herself in the most trouble and also the only one to pull herself out of it, highly relatable for those wading in the murk of complex emotions, attractions and traumas with a touch of Aries’ impulsivity. Like so many Gods and Goddesses, Inanna is REACTIVE (or reflexive depending on perspective), but above all she holds room for juxtaposition. Beyond duality and into multitudes, a distinctive kind of bravery of its own, my own learning to center myself in the storm of varied hardships and heartaches has shifted my sense of self over and over.
I welcome the capacity for complexity, holding space for all my selves AND those of others.
WHAT: Full Pink Moon in Libra
WHEN: Saturday April 12th, 2025 8:21 PM EST
THEME: You Can Do Anything but Not Everything
The upcoming lunation will spotlight our disconnect with others AND ourselves plus what potential we have for repair OR the need to let that shit go. As an assembly of Warrior Fire and Justice Air, Aries and Libra have had a year-and-a-half battle on the Lunar Nodal Axis recently. Sitting opposite the Aries Sun, this week’s Libra Pink Moon speaks to our sense of boundaries when it comes to Love as a resource, though not without some struggle especially with the last hurrah of the Aries Solar Eclipse. The recent battle cry release deep-seeded insecurities that hold us back from our core creative was also a catalyst to inspect dynamics that ask us to make ourselves small. This is where the Libra Pink Moon does its best work: analyzing where the give-and-take is too light or too heavy, indicating where conversations should be had and using wisdom to know we may be running up the wrong hill altogether.
The Axis of Aries Warrior Princess and Libra Love Goddess invites us to reckon with a reality where more than one or two things can be true. But at the end of the day, we still have to choose.
This exploration is especially important for pesky romantic issues that have welled up during the Double-Retrograde which somewhat stalled us all. Now that Venus and Mercury in peaceful Pisces, smooth-overs are possible for romantic-communication snafus. The stamina of putting plans into action was already there, but the will and way to do so is slowly returning. The Pink Moon encourages understanding, both within and outside of ourselves, though can be at potential pitfall while keeping the peace at the expense of our dreams. March was a length of limbo and some of the most difficult astrology of the year; April’s Full Moon in Libra offers a bit of objective yet heart-centered discernment to follow through with correcting choices for a solid foundation and Future.
2025’s Pink Moon is a celebratory cosmic kiss simply due to the fact that it is the 1st Major Moon after Spring Eclipse Season.
With Aries-Pisces Mercury Retrograde finally ending, the most symbolic calendar alignment is that Venus Retrograde ends the same day as the Venus-ruled Full Moon.. but neither mean our Retrograde work is done yet. Sitting with Venus Rx and really reviewing where our hearts are at with the time and space we have in this life is the hardest lesson of all. Time is not infinite, and just like love energy, time is a precious resource. With these influential Inner Planets now direct, relationship communication will become more defined, wonderfully utilized when our values align. We can make steps forward and actually feel and see the method we want to take re: our time and energy. And most of us want to walk alongside people who respect our efforts and energy, not with people who are using us superficially.
Our desires are ready for acknowledgement amongst the reality check of the Retrogrades. How to obtain these desires and how many goals we can handle will be up for discernment with this magickal Full Moon moment. We are reflecting on the personalities in our midst, where we are aligned or still in conflict, and which relationships can most benefit from the effort of showing up or letting go. Between the 4/4 Portal weekend and the Pink Moon, questions re: our Labors of Love lead us deeper into the lusty erotic lavish of life’s garden only further heightened by all that has smashed into our path over March’s maddening Double-Retrograde. As the remainder of Aries Season ~2 weeks left~ anchors around the Libra’s lunation, swiftly stirring up our Future-thought, decisions must be made!
